How we pick

1. Official guidance first. Every L0 and L1 item comes from, or is checked against, 12 official lists from European governments, FEMA and the Red Cross. Items that aren’t on any official list are marked as our own additions.

2. Genuine brands only. We pick established manufacturers with a track record and warranties. No unbranded copies.

3. Three tiers per item.

• Budget: the cheapest genuine-brand product that does the job reliably.
• Mid: better build quality, usability and longevity.
• Premium: the most capable option: more rugged materials, better water resistance, more features. Premium is defined by capability, not price.

4. A power standard. Every powered item in our quick-buy kits runs on AA or AAA batteries or charges over USB-C, so you need one type of battery and one cable. Exceptions are marked on the product.

5. Specs, not adjectives. Descriptions list what a product does and its trade-offs. If there’s nothing useful to add, we don’t.

6. No paid placements. Brands can’t pay to be picked. We earn affiliate commission on some links; it doesn’t affect which products we choose. See our legal page.

7. We review regularly. Every page shows when it was last reviewed. Products that are discontinued or change for the worse are replaced.
